shining the light of Jesus

“Light” is in our name. We have a “JESUS SAVES” neon sign atop our church. This is our purpose together as a church — shining the light of Jesus in knowing and following Him. We want this to inspire our worship, to define our community and to guide our mission. “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Cor. 4:6). And because of this, Jesus commands us, “let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matt. 5:16).

In May and June, we will gather in God’s Word around several discipleship topics to our purpose statement. How does God call us to shine the light of Jesus in knowing and following Him?

  • We are presently renovating our church building on Maiden Lane. We look forward to moving back in later this summer. Until then, join us for our weekly worship service, Sundays at 10:00 a.m. at the Kirk Family YMCA, Sundays at 10:00 a.m.
  • However, on Sunday, June 9, we will not be at the Kirk Family YMCA. Instead, we will gather at 9:00 a.m. for breakfast fellowship and 10:00 a.m. worship at the church gym on Maiden Lane (1503 Maiden Ln SW, 24015). We then will transition to the Roanoke River at Wasena Park for several baptisms.

God has shone the light of Jesus in our lives, and so we shine the light of Jesus with our lives. We do this because Jesus saves. This is light work.
